Doggy Daycare

Doggy Daycare

We live in a busy world, and this means being out of the house for long hours. This means we have to leave our furry friends behind, and the days can seem so very long while they await our return. A lack of interaction for long periods can lead to troubling behaviors such as excessive barking, nervous urination, chewing, and other stress-related problems.

Doggy daycare is a great option. Just like daycare for human babies, your fur baby can spend the day being pampered, fussed and entertained in the company of caring staff and dog trainers. Not only does it give them the attention they would be lacking being home alone, it also provides the opportunity for them to socialize with other dogs and get plenty of much needed exercise and obedience dog training.

Exercise is normally scheduled throughout the day, grouping suitable dogs together based on size, personality and energy levels. Dogs with nervous dispositions or those who are intolerant to other dogs will benefit from one-to-one play sessions.

Your piece of mind is important. You don’t want to be spending your day worrying whether your dog is comfortable and happy. Make sure you do your research, look for reviews and visit the center. Reputable daycare companies will be happy to show you their facilities and talk you through the process.

They will ask you as many questions as you ask them. To provide the best service for you and your dog, they need as much information as possible to tailor their care to your dog’s needs. Doggy daycare staff should have a passion for dogs and that will shine through when you meet them.

Mannered Mutt’s Day Camp is the perfect remedy. Your dog gets to spend the day in the company of both humans and other dogs, keeping active and mentally stimulated. Based in Willis, Texas we offer a day of interaction and doggy socialization as well as training sessions tailored to each dog. Whether you live in Conroe, Willis, The Woodlands or surrounding areas, you can leave your dog, confident that they will be happy and well cared for.

The admittance of unneutered and unspayed dogs is also an important consideration when choosing a daycare center for your dog. In group scenarios an entire (unneutered) dog can cause serious problems due to the increase in hormones. It can lead to excessive dominant behavior, mounting or even fights.

It is fine to use doggy daycare as on an ad-hoc basis occasionally, but it is recommended that if you need to use daycare services, they go at least once a week. This maintains a strong social structure within the group your dog will be interacting with. Having to be socialized into a new group of dogs during each visit can be stressful. Dogs who go to daycare regularly and interact with familiar dogs display far fewer stress behaviors and will enjoy going.

For these reasons, the Mannered Mutt does not accept unneutered or unspayed dogs for the safety of all the dogs attending Day Camp. These ensure all dogs can play together happily and in a safe environment.

Pick up and drop off times have a big effect on your dog’s day. A doggy daycare center should allow drop off before peak times, so before 9am. This means you can drop your dog off without getting stuck in morning traffic. The same goes for pick up times.

At the Mannered Mutt, drop off can be as early as 7am, which means your dog can enjoy a short and comfortable journey before Day Camp starts at 9am. Pick up can be anytime during business hours, which means your dog won’t be put through a long and stressful journey of heavy traffic.

Always check that the daycare you choose requires all dogs to be up to date on all their vaccinations. Unvaccinated dogs can catch and spread diseases very easily, which can be dangerous in places where dogs come into contact regularly.

Dogs must have vaccinations against Bordetella, DHPP and Rabies. The Mannered Mutt is a responsible dog care service provider and requires a copy of your dog’s vaccinations given by a licensed veterinarian. This protects both your dog and all the other dogs under the care of The Mannered Mutt.

Dog Boarding

Sometimes you will need to be away from home for days or weeks and may not be able to take your dog with you. What happens if you cannot find friends or relatives to care for your dog? Dog boarding is the perfect solution.

Why use dog boarding:

  • Going on vacation or honeymoon
  • Travelling for work
  • Undergoing or recovering from surgery
  • Moving home
  • Having a baby

Do you have a well-deserved vacation booked or are you scheduled for a medical procedure? Perhaps you are having a baby and are worried your excitable dog may make the transition home too stressful? Dog boarding will give you the piece of mind that your dog will be receiving 24/7 care, whether it is one night or several.

The Mannered Mutt goes the extra mile for your furry friend and offers training-based activities at no extra cost! Not only will your dog have a fun stay, but they will be mentally and physically stimulated and learn lots of new skills.

As with doggy daycare, all dog boarding providers should require up to date vaccinations to ensure the health and safety of all boarders.

You may only need one night or you might need a few weeks. Dog boarding can be tailored to suit you and your dog. At the Mannered Mutt, all dogs are offered either individual or group play sessions, along with plenty of potty breaks. They have expert caretakers and dog trainers who will supervise all your dog’s boarding activities.

Being away from you for long periods can be stressful for your dog, so a good dog boarding center will provide plenty of opportunities for your dog to have fun and burn off any pent-up energy. They should also be able to socialize safely with other friendly dogs.

The Mannered Mutt provides three sessions per day where your dog can interact and play with other dogs in indoor and outdoor play yards. They also get snack time! If your dog does not play well with others, he will benefit from one-to-one play time instead. As well as their included training, your dog will end each day of boarding tired and happy. These play and training sessions also help to acclimate your dog to being separated from you. This is especially important if your dog has never boarded before.

All dog boarders should be able to provide good quality dog food, usually at an additional cost, however, they should always encourage you to bring your own dog food. Changing diet can cause stomach upset, so he should arrive at boarding with his own food.

If your dog has not boarded before, it is a good idea to visit the center you will be using or enroll your dog in daycare so they can get used to being left and understand that while they are there, they will be cared for and enjoy their stay. The Mannered Mutt provides social media updates via photo uploads, so you can be sure your dog is well cared for and having an enjoyable stay.

Things to remember

It is important to provide your dog care provider with any information they may need including medical history, medication your dog may need to take, dietary restrictions and behavioral issues. This will allow the care staff to better tailor your dog’s care package.

Also ensure you leave an emergency contact and the name of a trusted person who is allowed to pick up your dog if you are unable to do so.

Check that the dog care center has an appropriate license and that members of the care staff are up to date on pet first aid. Accidents can happen at any time, so you need to be confident that your dog is being cared for by well trained and knowledgeable people.

Reputable day care and dog boarding providers will show you around their facilities, including where your dog will sleep. These areas should be clean, tidy and well ventilated. The staff should also encourage you to bring something with you such as a blanket, crate pad or t-shirt that has the smell of home. This will help your dog feel safe and ease his adjustment to being at daycare or boarding away from you and his normal routine.
